Sheriff Dale J. Schmidt is a family man who has been married to his beautiful wife Cassandra for 11 years. He has two children, Caitlyn age 8, and Collin age 6. They all attend St John’s Lutheran Church in Juneau.
Sheriff Schmidt began his career with Dodge County as a Patrol Deputy for the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office from May 2004 through March 2012. He was then promoted to Sergeant and supervised all 3 patrol shifts. On January 5, 2015, he took office as Dodge County Sheriff and currently holds that Office. He has experience totaling nearly 22 years in law enforcement.
Sheriff Schmidt is a graduate of Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton with an Associate’s Degree in Police Science and has also attended college courses at UW-Fond du Lac and Moraine Park Technical College in Beaver Dam. In 2017 he returned to Fox Valley Technical College as an adjunct instructor for the Law Enforcement Academy.
The Sheriff began his career in Law Enforcement as a Police Officer in the Village of Winneconne Police Department in September of 2000. He has also worked as a Police Officer for the Town of Winneconne Police and the Horicon Police Departments. He was also a Deputy for the Fond du Lac County and Green County Sheriff’s Offices.
Sheriff Schmidt is a Nationally Certified Drug Recognition Expert, an Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) Instructor, and a Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) Master Instructor.
Sheriff Schmidt is a strong advocate for proactive law enforcement and problem-oriented policing. During his time as Sheriff, he has made it a priority for the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office to reduce traffic fatalities resulting from impaired driving. He has also been an advocate for ensuring resources, education, and enforcement options are available to fight the heroin epidemic. Another major initiative was the identification and reduction of human trafficking in Dodge County. There are many other initiatives Sheriff Schmidt has launched and he continues to find new ways every day to enhance the quality of life for Dodge County residents and visitors.
